What is the Dubai 2020 Expo?

The Dubai 2020 World Expo is an international exhibition that seeks to bring together countries of the world to collectively find solutions to problems that we face like global warming.
It was initially set to take place in October 2020 but was pushed back due to the pandemic. This year, the World Expo is set to start on 1st October and end on 31st March 2022. It will be held in the Middle East in Dubai, and will host 191 countries with an expected 25 million physical visits. Although it was postponed, the name "Dubai Expo 2020" is still unchanged.
Dubai Expo 2020 aims to increase awareness about the challenges faced by humanity on a global scale and will consist of individual pavilions where countries will be displaying their national cultures and technological inventions.
Local Singapore snack goes global
In Singapore, when you think of popcorn, the usual flavour of salted caramel popcorn or cheddar cheese popcorn comes to mind, and perhaps even Eureka or Garretts.
We wanted to rediscover local food in new ways, and so we have infused local flavours such as Kaya Butter Toast, Nasi Lemak and even Chilli Crab into our popcorn, on top of the usual flavours like salted caramel, and the all time classic flavour chocolate, and we have grown into a local Singapore snack that many love today that even launched our very own Pokemon popcorn.
The Kettle Gourmet is honoured to be one of the participating brands that are representing Singapore in the Singapore pavilion where our culture will be on display.
Proudly made in Singapore, we aim to bring gourmet popcorn infused with flavours local to Singapore and bring the international community a taste of Singapore through our popcorn!

The Kettle Gourmet’s Eco Friendly Dubai Expo Packaging
We will be debuting our Dubai Expo packaging during the Expo as well!
The design on our Kaya Butter Toast packaging depicts our Kaya Butter Toast Snack Monster with a hat, with beautiful flowers surrounding him. The flower is Plumeria Obtusa, or more commonly known as the Great White Frangipani, a flower that can be found in Singapore, the Garden City.
The design on our Nasi Lemak packaging depicts our Nasi Lemak Snack Monster with a hat, with a coconut, coconut rice, anchovies (fried fish) and a banana plant. The first three: coconut, coconut rice and anchovies are essential ingredients to the local dish while banana leaves were depicted as Nasi Lemak is usually served on banana leaves, which is a nod to the local dish that is loved by many.
On top of that, instead of our usual plastic packaging, we are now using biodegradable paper kraft packaging in line with the World Expo’s sub theme of Sustainability.
We have also eradicated the use of plastic bags and transited to using biodegradable plastic and compostable plastic for our popcorn during the event.
Our Dubai Expo 2020 flavours
The two flavours that got selected to be at the World Expo are our Kaya Butter Toast and Nasi Lemak, which are iconic and well loved by Singaporeans.
Our uniquely Singaporean snacks will be available for purchase for those visiting the Expo.
Our Kaya Butter Toast popcorn invokes nostalgia amongst people who grew up in Singapore as our popcorn contains the sweet and crunchy taste of the traditional breakfast commonly found at coffee shops, and the harmonious combination of butter and kaya jam.
Dubai World Expo 2020 goers get to Indulge themselves in the buttery goodness of our Kaya Butter Toast popcorn that comes in environmentally friendly packaging, which brings out the ‘local’ in Singapore’s local snacks.
For Dubai World Expo 2020 goers looking for a spicier kick, our Nasi Lemak popcorn which comes in environmentally friendly packaging is the right one for them! The fragrance and sweetness of coconut milk blends in well with the spiciness of the sambal chilli, bringing out the full taste of the coconut rice dish.
Both local flavours have been infused into our popcorn to give the World Expo goers a taste of Singapore.
What to expect from Singapore in the Dubai World Expo 2020
Expo 2020 is organized around three subthemes: Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability, three key points that will help the world become a better place.
Singapore is known as a green city, and tourists come to Singapore and are wowed by the lush greenery and many beautiful places in the Green City that is teeming with flora and fauna
The Singapore 2020 pavillion represents Singapore as a green city, and is thus grouped under the sub-theme Sustainability in the Expo
Under Sustainability, Singapore's Pavilion is called ‘Enter a rainforest,’ and it will consist of a canopy walk in lush vertical greenery and an open platform offering vantage points to enjoy the view, which represents the green city that Singapore is with its various green spots like Gardens By the Bay and the lush green space in Jewel Changi Airport.

Singapore’s Pavillion aims to be net-zero, meaning that it produces more energy that it uses. This is to represent Singapore as a green city, and highlights our goal to make a more sustainable future
In line with the World Expo’s and Singapore’s theme of Sustainability, Our snack monsters are now packaged with craft packaging which is a biodegradable material and is eco-friendly.
This means that Expo goers can enjoy our popcorn with the ease of mind that they will be helping to make the world a more sustainable one too.
